PR jobs in Chicago increase

Saturday, December 10th, 2011

The number of PR jobs in Chicago has increased, according to a recent survey.

WANTED Analytics, a source of real-time business intelligence for the talent marketplace said that more than 9,000 organizations are recruiting for PR professionals and hiring demand has steadily increased in 2011, now up 10% compared to the same 90-day period in 2010.

The industries with the highest demand for Public Relations professionals during this 90-day time period were Colleges and Universities, Civic and Social Organizations, Family Services, Public Relations Agencies, and Medical and Surgical Hospitals. Of these five industries, Colleges and Universities placed the most job ads, with more than 1,700 at a 7% year-over-year increase. However, Family Services organizations experienced the highest growth at more than 16%.

Metropolitan areas with the highest hiring demand for Public Relations Managers and Specialists during this period were New York, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Boston. Of these 5 locations, four experienced year-over-year gains in hiring demand. While Recruiters in New York placed the most job ads, Los Angeles actually experienced the highest growth, up 28% versus 2010. Washington, DC was the only area of the previously mentioned that saw a decline, down 1% from the same 90-day period in 2010.

That means Chicago marketing jobs have also increased.

BP Increases Marketing Opportunites in Chicago

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Gasoline supplier British Petroleum recently announced that it will be moving 1,200 jobs out of the western suburbs and into the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. This is a complete reverse of the company’s decision to move many jobs out of the city a decade ago when BP obtained Chicago-based Amoco.

The positions will be transferring from Warrenville and Naperville mainly due to the needs of a majority of BP employees. A large portion of these individuals are younger professionals, which is a group that enjoys the idea of both living and working in downtown Chicago. Donald Smith of Jupiter Reality says that the growth of the West Loop market has made downtown living more desirable, especially for young professionals.
