Contract could increase IT jobs in Chicago

Monday, October 17th, 2011

A new contract could bolster the amount of IT jobs in Chicago.

The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has awarded Accenture Federal Services a five-year, $10.8 million contract to provide Oracle’s PeopleSoft application support and hosting services. The contract supports bringing business intelligence, analytics, and cost accounting to the commission.

Accenture will upgrade and expand existing software applications to enable the commission to access, organize and interpret information to improve efficiency and help transform information into predictive analytics using Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) software. This shift will help the commission identify areas for process improvement and cost reductions.

By modernizing its financial management capabilities, the commission will be able to increase the effectiveness of its financial operations while reducing costs, said John Matchette, who heads Accenture’s Federal Public Safety practice.

“Using analytics will provide greater insight to the commission as we work to help create stronger financial management,” Matchette said.

If Chicago jobs are bolstered, Illinois jobs may also increase.

FERC was one of Accenture’s first PeopleSoft clients in the federal sector. Accenture implemented and operated the commission’s original software solution applications.
